Solving Problems at the Molecular Level
Many biochemical and biomedical challenges are deeply molecular in nature. Using techniques from synthetic and physical organic chemistry, the Wang group focuses on the development of functional small-molecule tools to tackle these problems.
Specifically, we design highly selective synthetic methods for modifying proteins and peptides at unprecedented rates and for introducing unnatural functionalities—such as electrophilic carbon(sp³)–halogen bonds—into these biomolecules, thereby endowing them with new functions and reactivities.
In parallel, our group also develops next-generation protein-targeting transition metal-containing complexes for treating drug-resistant cancers.
